I. Vaughn and Rorin theorize about the facility and drones

I.
Vaughn: *is on lunch break in the mess hall, the remnants of his meal pushed to the side of the table, and is reading something on his PADD, since he has time before he goes back on-shift*
Rorin: *enters the mess hall, on his lunch break; he'd skip it but is brain demands nutrition and ignoring this wouldn't be smart* *replicates a dish that looks like veggie sushi with orange rice and a betazoid beverage and starts walking around, looking for a free table or one with pleasant company*
Vaughn: *notices Rorin's entering* *marks his spot on the PADD and raises a hand* Rorin, hello! *smile*
Rorin: *hears his name and--* Ah. *^^°* Hello, Vaughn. *walks up to his table* *company~*
Vaughn: Been keeping busy in astrometrics?
Rorin: *nods* Yes, but *makes a vague indicating gesture with his tray* now I should eat. Would you mind my company?
Vaughn: *headshake* No, go ahead. *motions to the empty chair across from him*
Rorin: Thank you. *sits down* How is it going for you? A lot to do?
Vaughn: *quiet sigh, small headshake* Worrying, mostly. *fiddles idly with the PADD*
Rorin: About our crew members on their mystery trip, hm.
Vaughn: *nods* We lost a couple people from Medical down there, but I assume you already knew that.
Rorin: *small nod* Yes. I've seen the list with everyone gone missing as soon as it was out.
Vaughn: What do you think happened to them down there? They got lost or captured or...? *doesn't want to think about the last option*
Rorin: Well. *takes a quiet deep breath* One of these drones injected me an anesthetic. So I'd say the captured part is safe to assume. But as for the rest, there are many options.
Vaughn: *well at least they're not dead* *or they weren't when whatever went down* Still don't know what's in that facility, though. Isn't it shielded against the sensors or something?
Rorin: *nods* It is, yes. *subtle frustrated undertone* What we can scan from up here is a vacuum inside and die exterior walls of the building, but so far nothing more. I'm hoping that'll change with the results from the drones we captured. *starts eating alien sushi*
Vaughn: Sounds like it's been a pain in the butt for the past week.
Rorin: Sort of. *tilts his head* Though we are making progress. It's not going fast, but it's happening. Perhaps we'll be able to scan the facility soon and gain better knowledge of what we're up against. If we are /very/ lucky, we could even be able to locate our officers and beam them up. Heh, but *headshake* I don't believe it's likely.
Vaughn: *shrug* At least locating them, even if we can't beam them up, will be a good thing.
Rorin: *nods* Definitely. I suppose we're going to need another away team, or several, to get them out. But before that, we should find out more about our, eh, enemy, now that we can.
Vaughn: I'd volunteer for another away team, but, *shrugs again, palms-up* I don't think I'd be much use on one.
Rorin: Well, that depends, hm? I suppose it would be a rough trip, with either a lot of sneaking or enemy contact, depending on what works best.
Vaughn: I'm not too great on the sneaking part. *heh* I'm the person who's probably going to knock over the most breakable thing and make all the noise possible. Or fall down the stairs and make the noise that way.
Rorin: Heh, well all right. That's inconvenient for being sneaky. *pause* I wonder, though, if we could be sneaky. At least for a while. Perhaps we could do something to make ourselves less interesting for the drones. *small shrug*
Vaughn: *interest piqued* Like masking our biosigns like they mask the facility?
Rorin: *nods* Yes. They're machines so they must be programmed to react to certain things. If we are none of these certain things, perhaps they won't react or not as quickly. *sips from his drink* But without the full evaluation from engineering and science it's only a guess.
Vaughn: You have any idea how far they are with their evaluations? *takes a sip of his green tea, needs something to keep his hands occupied*
Rorin: *shakes his head* No, I don't. *he considered asking, but decided against it because they're probably busy even without his questions* Commander Vekal surely knows, but I suppose that she, as well as science and engineering, are currently very busy.
Vaughn: *nod* No doubt. And Medical might get their own workload foisted on them, if the anesthetic used on you is figured out.
Rorin: *^^°* See? That was my plan all along. Deliver a sample of the drug.
Vaughn: *can't help but snicker* Though from the sounds of it not entirely unhurt. Didn't you get bodyslammed by one of those things?
Rorin: Ah, yes. I did. It was on top of me, or so I was told. I'm not sure if I remember. *small wry smile* It seems as if letting me near huge spider-like beings is a mistake. But fortunately these were machines.
Vaughn: *amused smirk* So at least it couldn't eat you this time.
Rorin: I'm not so sure about that. *^^°* But it had no predatory instincts I was able to pick up. Very pleasant.
Vaughn: Well, if it's a machine, I wouldn't think it'd have any "instincts" aside from it's programming. *isn't even sure if machines show up on Rorin's empathic radar in the first place*
Rorin: *nods* True. It doesn't seem to have any brain-waves I can pick up, anyway.
Vaughn: *well if it was mechanical...* Machine or not, I'm sure we'll be able to figure the things out. And get our people back. *optimism~!*
Rorin: *small smile* So am I. *more optimism~ and stubbornness* Well, I'm still hoping that we're not running out of time and of course they could be damned already. But to my experience, time is the worst enemy when it comes to getting, say, lost people back.
Vaughn: *winces at the thought of their officers being damned; that would be bad indeed* There's a first time for everything...let's hope in this case there isn't a time limit we have to work with.
Rorin: *nods slowly* Well, I suppose there is, but I wouldn't know what happens when time runs out. There are as many possibilities for that, as for our officers' current condition. *tilts his head* Theorizing about it is interesting, but only as long as it's about facts, not emotions. *getting emotional about lost people is a very bad thing :/*
Vaughn: *and Vaughn is one guy who can get quite emotional at times* Sounds easier said than done.... *one of the people missing is a fellow counselor dammit ;_;*
Rorin: It is. *thoughtfully sips from his drink* Is there anything I can do?
Vaughn: *headshake, holds up his hand* Just work on getting our people back. *because he's pretty sure a guy in command is more use in a rescue situation than a counselor* *decides on a change of subject to something that /isn't/ so depressing* Once we get everyone back safe *because yes, they are going to find them* where do you think we'll be sent next?
Rorin: *small brief smile, nods when Vaughn says to get their people back* *and rolls with the change of subject* Heh, well. I haven't thought about it. But I do like exploring unknown terrain. It doesn't have to be hostile, though. A peaceful planet like Kalion VI is a welcoming change.
Vaughn: Or Izem. *small smile*
Rorin: Ahh, yes. *nods smiling* We did make some friends there. But what about you? What sort of mission do you like best, or do you have no preference?
Vaughn: *heh* I like the ones that don't involve bodily harm or getting captured.
Rorin: Well, I'm no fan of getting captured, either. I cherish my freedom very much.
Vaughn: I think you'd be in agreement with the rest of the crew on that one. I know I agree with the sentiment. *sips tea*
Rorin: *nods* I'm sure, yes. Most everyone does. *casual shrug, small smile* Well, usually I try to I take it as it comes and to make the best of it.
Vaughn: That's a good philosophy. *nodnod* *rises* In any case, I'll be off break in a few minutes. Be seeing you around, and good luck on the search for getting our people back.
Rorin: Ahh, thank you. *tilts his head* I'll see you around, too. And have a pleasant day, as far as possible.
Vaughn: *nods* I'll try. *returns the remnants of his meal to the matter recycler and leaves the mess hall*
Rorin: *stays for another while to finish his sushi and drink and heads back to work*
