I. Joseph and Zef don't want to be in a horror film
II. An away team consisting of T'Pah, Rorin, Naara, Kelsey and Joe clears the path to the drill, but is attacked by venomous snakes.

I.
Zef: *in uniform, tricorder and some engineering tools at his belt; stands in a hallway, currently alone, is
aiming with his phaser at a larger vent near the ceiling and watching said vent skeptically* *tired and stressed, it's been a rough week so far and being snowed in sucks*
Joseph: *is on lunch break, and is heading to the mess hall to get lunch and some coffee when he comes across Zef aiming a phaser at a vent* Er...hello?
Zef: *eyes Joe* Hi. Erm. I'm not crazy. There's something in there. *the vent looks all normal though*
Joseph: *okay....* Any idea what it is? *besides unfriendly*
Zef: *o__o* … No. I came around the corner and it disappeared inside the vent. Some... small fast creature.*but it was there* *really*
Joseph: *hey, he's not arguing* Maybe it just saw you and bolted. You never know, some of these creatures might be afraid of us. *hopefully*
Zef: Yeah well, we're the people who brought that drill into their caves. I guess if I didn't know what a drill was, I'd be afraid of it, too. *takes his phaser down slowly, but keeps looking at the vent*
Joseph: Pretty sure I'd be scared if someone decided to drill into my home, whether I knew what it was or not.
Zef: Okay, yeah. Point made. If that huge creature in the cave would only let us stop the drill. But, I mean, why should it trust us.
Joseph: *shrug* Well, at least the big creature hasn't come here. Only smaller stuff. *though still unfriendly*
Zef: That... gawd, that creature. It broke through the rocks once and it looked so angry. I hope it doesn't want to get here. *because if it wants to, it probably will at some point*
Joseph: *@_@* Sound like something out of a horror movie.
Zef: Yeah, now that you mention it... I'm not even into horror movies. But I have friends who are... *oh right! Takes out his tricorder and scans for that creature's life sign*
Joseph: Yeaahhh...I may like horror films, but I don't like being /in/ them.
Zef: I guess our situation would make an acceptable plot, though. I mean, suddenly snowed in, we can't contact anyone, hostile creatures, eerie darkness, weird ancient beast in the basement...
Joseph: All that's missing are zombies and a maniac with a chainsaw, heh. *starts as the thing in the vent makes a tapping noise and then a screetch*
Zef: *startles, quickly aims at the vent* … that didn't sound like a chainsaw, but.
Joseph: It didn't sound friendly. *tapping gets louder and more noises*
Zef: Yeah... Okay. If it shows up, I'm gonna stun it. *o_o;* *good plan, please work there's no plan B other than: shoot more, dodge or retreat*
Joseph: Good plan. *you can probably shoot better than me, anyway* *aim sucks, been practicing but still not exactly a marksman*
Zef: Thanks. *pause* It's my only plan. But. Yeah. *a small animal's face appears inside the vent behind the grid only seconds before the lights flicker and go out*
Joseph: *when the lights go out* Uh-oh...that's not good.
Zef: Do you have a flashlight? *fires at the vent, the shot lights up the grid and inside for seconds... there may or may not have been a creature, quickly fires two more shots when there's another screech and the sound of metal dropping on the floor*
Joseph: *headshake* No. *WHYYY didn't he start carrying one after the monster in the dark last night* *backs up to the wall, where the hell is the thing*
Zef: Crap. I. Oh! I have one at my belt. *conveniently because he's an engineer and inside some wall panels it's too dark to see anything* *still holding the tricorder so there's some light where he stands*
Joseph: *thank the gods* Er, which one is it? *can barely see*
Zef: That flashlight! *perfect description* The long black stick! *it's not black but dark grey and metallic* *tapping noises can be heard, coming towards them quickly* *tenses up, ready to shoot but where is it..?!*
Joseph: *gets the flashlight and turns it on, shining it right at the creature* *shitshitshit*
Zef: *holds his breath to hold still while Joe gets the light from his belt* *the creature (a scaly weasel with a dragon-like face) narrows its eyes at the light, screeches angrily and tries to run away from it to the opposite wall* *Zef fires, but misses it*
Joseph: *keeps the light on the creature so Zef can aim properly* *that thing does not look friendly*
Zef: Gah, crap! *shoots and misses again because the creature is damn quick and darts towards them, it tries to avoid Joe's light and looks like it has some tiny but sharp claws and teeth*
Joseph: *yikes* It's got teeth! *keeping the light on the creature as best he can*
Zef: I know! *stressed* *aiming, fires two more shots and the second one finally stuns the creature* *o__o;*
Joseph: *doesn't move for a few seconds before carefully approaching the creature and nudging it gently with his foot* Think we should alert security...?
Zef: *keeps aiming at the creature* … yeah, maybe. Report to them, at least. *the creature doesn't move*
Joseph: *nod* *taps his commbadge* Dover to Security, Sanders and I just had something come through the vents.
Zef: *keeps aiming while glancing on his tricorder, it's not picking up any more unusual life signs*
Security: Where is it now? Did you get it?
Joseph: *nod* Er, yes, Sanders did. It's stunned and right in front of us.
Security: I see. I'll send someone over to take care of the rest.
Joseph: Right. Dover out. *looks to Zef* Well then.
Zef: Yeah, well. Horror movie...? *takes a deeeep breath* *that was close* *it's only a small creature but you never know how much damage they can do if they get you*
Joseph: *nod* Not one of the worst things that can show up, though. And it's only one.
Zef: True, yeah. *still aiming at it, just in case, and only stops when Security arrives and sends them on their way soon after* *turns to Joe again* So... that went okay, I guess. Did you have to be anywhere?
Joseph: *shrug* I was on my way to lunch when...that happened. *nobody got hurt, that much at least is good*
Zef: At least it wasn't gross. I was headed for the dorms. I had a night shift and... yeah. *sleep, or at least rest, it's hours past the end of his shift* *so in a way he's glad that there really was a creature in that vent*
Joseph: *nod* Well, have a good sleep, then.
Zef: *nodnod, ghost of a smile* I'll try. See you, okay? Don't die and stuff.
Joseph: You, too. *small wave and continues on his way*
Zef: I'll try. *heads for his dorm room* *dorms ._.*

II.
T'Pah: *with equipment and gear, is one of the first arriving on top of the elevator shaft*
Naara: *Follows behind her, checking her phaser rifle and phaser are charged and primed, before holstering them*
Rorin: *fully equipped and ready for the mission, arrives at the elevator shaft* *nods at the others* Hello everyone.
Joe: *arrives behind Naara, medkit in tow* *there just in case they manage to get hurt, moving large rocks and all*
Kelsey: *totally prepared for this, has a phaser, has equipment, made a checklist* *brings up the back of the group, walking carefully and keeping an eye out for things that might attack*
T'Pah: *after nodding to Rorin, turns to the group* I assume all of you know why we are here. We will climb down the elevator shaft *eyes narrow slightly for a short moment while she looks down, but then turns her head back to the group, arms crossed*, make sure to clear the path to the drill and, if we are particularly successful, perhaps even deactivate the drill. It will be a long way, though, with many dangers ahead of us. Safety *as much as possible, anyway* is our first priority. If either of you thinks it is too dangerous to continue or feels incapable to, I... we *nods to Rorin, who is of the same rank* expect to be informed.
Naara: *If safety is the priority, why aren't there more security people? Like... an entire team?* *Says nothing*.
Rorin: *looks at T'Pah, nods, turns towards the others, small smile* Yes. I have nothing to add.
Joe: *nod* Understood.
Kelsey: *well, it is too dangerous* *so let's establish that* *shakes her head* I have no complaint.
T'Pah: *since nobody complains, logic dictates they have it down. If it wasn't for that little detail that they aren't Vulcans* Let's go. *gets her phaser out of her holster and starts climbing down the ladder, glad that there is no elevator in the shaft to crush them this time* *expects Rorin to organise the team quickly while securing the passage, listening and bending down to point her phaser into tunnels crossing the elevator shaft first*
Rorin: *draws his phaser and waits for another second after T'Pah started climbing down, then* All right. Dover, Naara, Boudet and I'll take the rear.
Joe: *nod* Got it. *all business* *starts down after T'Pah, inwardly thanking the fact that he climbed a lot of trees (and a few gutter pipes but let's not go into that) when he was a kid*
Naara: *Readies phaser and follows Joe down the shaft*
Kelsey: *follows Naara, climbing down the ladder carefully, testing each rung before putting her weight on it. Doesn't matter that people went before her*
Rorin: *waits and looks around attentively until everyone's on the ladde, then starts climbing down after Kelsey*
T'Pah: *secures every tunnel before climbing further down, hearing the clashing of creatures against force fields – both in the snow, but mainly in the tunnels – in some, knowing that previous away teams set them up at a frequency that doesn't react to the snow, but touch, and secured the whole area for them to be able to climb the shaft with this sufficiency and without meeting and creatures at all. After what feels like an eternity - but for T'Pah is a climb of “approximately fourty-seven minutes”, because Vulcans of course don't feel – she reaches the end of the ladder and her feet meet solid ground. Adjusts her headlight* *now the unsecured territory starts*
Joe: *reaches the end of the shaft and once he's on solid ground, adjusts his headlamp as well* *everything's going fine, for now.....*
Naara: *Reaches the end of the shaft and adjusts her own headlight, scanning around to ensure they're safe*
Kelsey: *steps off of the ladder and holds on to it, still, steadying herself and giving her legs a moment to recover* *That was so long @_@* *and oh god it's dark down here, what was she thinking*
Rorin: *with the shaft having been secured in previous missions there is no enemy contact at all for... possibly forever x.X gets bored after maybe ten minutes, stays alert of course though* *finally thankfully reaches the end of the shaft and jumps down the last bit, past Kelsey, though his legs don't thank him for this action* Are you all right? *talking quietly while he adjusts his headlight*
T'Pah: *approaches their destination – the sealed tunnel entrance – carefully and with her phaser drawn, letting Rorin do the talking for now*
Joe: *follows T'Pah, keeping alert both for possible danger and for the people in their group, should anyone get hurt* *keeps a hand on his medkit*
Naara: *Continues to scan around as she follows them, frowning, not liking this one little bit*
Kelsey: *nods at him* Yes. You?
Rorin: *nods* Of course. *small brief smile* *is all right and as professionally excited as away missions often get him* Let's go. Take care, everyone. We're in unsecured territory now.
T'Pah: *keeps walking, careful to make not much sound*
Joe: *nods and in reply to Rorin* Understood. *monsters ._.*
Naara: *Mutters as she continues to scan* Perhaps we should've brought more security people...
Kelsey: *adjusts her headlamp, setting it to a brighter beam* *light! ._.* *and follows the group down the tunnel*
Rorin: *takes the rear again, his phaser still out, following everyone quietly*
[The group soon runs into a dead end; a wall of rocks and debris blocking the tunnel. Now they get to do the fun part: clearing!]
T'Pah: *lifts an eyebrow in reply to Naara, since her tricorder, that is set to vibrate in case something big or in large quantity approaches, is not giving any alarm* Is there an immediate reason as to why you say that in this moment?
Joe: *not going to argue with Naara about the mebbe bringing more security people thing, he kind of agrees* *buuut he doesn't say anything atm*
Naara: *Ok, note that Vulcan ears are good* No, I'd just personally feel that everyone here would be safer if there were more security staff with us.
Kelsey: *is no one noticing that we're at our destination* *looks from member to member of the group, then starts for the rock pile* *these rocks aren't going to move themselves and T'Pah hasn't said "don't move the rocks"*
Rorin: *walks up to the iced debris, mh actually this wakes some unpleasant memories :/ they're no more than ugly memories though and no reason to worry* *it's fine* It's fine. We're both armed and careful. Now, let's take a look at this.
T'Pah: *gets out her hand held mining device to break up larger rocks – the most they could get equipped with, but not as practical as the stuff that would have been carried down with the elevator, it will take much longer to actually break through the wall with this – and starts un-sealing the corridor* That is correct. However, since we are on our own and the base needs protection around the clock from our limited security department, I fear that this will have to do. *narrows her eyes slightly* In case we are attacked, our team is supposed to quickly return behind the presumable safety of our force fields that protect the shaft. I am positive that reinforcements will also be informed if the forcefields are exposed to a lot of *pause* Do you feel unable to fulfil the task you were given?
Naara: *Frowns, continues to scan the area* I never said that, Sir. I'm just pointing out the tactical vulnerability of 4 Officers protected by only 1 Security Officer.
Joe: *comes up tot the icy debris, that is a /lot/ of rock to move @_@* *does indeed agree with Naara that yes, he'd feel much safer with more security people here but he doubts that none of them were sent here because they were pushovers* *as for the "getting back behind the forcefield" part, that he'll be more than happy to do with crap hits the fan* *but right now...lotta rocks to get moved.*
Kelsey: We are no strangers to phasers, Naara. In such an enclosed *(dark ._.)* space, it would be unfeasible to have a larger protective force unless we were all Security. *starts moving rocks that she can lift, this is so much fun*
Rorin: *has nothing to add to what T'Pah and Kelsey said, so for now he has nothing to say* *instead, takes out his own hand held mining device and starts helping T'Pah to break off larger rocks*
T'Pah: *has a quick, scrutinizing look up towards the ceiling* Someone should set up the stabilizers now. *to Naara* Your objection is noted. *continues working*
Naara: *Frowns, continuing to scan* It wasn't an objection, Sir. I'm just concerned.
Joe: *starts moving what rocks he can (and can /lift/)* *mumble under his breath* ...not a stranger to phasers, but not /good/ with one.....
Kelsey: *just quietly moves rocks, this is incredible* *all these years of training and she's underground moving rocks*
Rorin: *steps away from the debris and sets down his backpack in which he carries the stabilizers* Kelsey, would you help me set them up? *gets them out and starts*
T'Pah: *makes a few long steps towards Naara, interrupting her work for a moment and lowering her voice* I understand. However, even though as a Vulcan I am no expert in the workings of the human mind, I am not entirely positive that our security officer voicing concerns the moment our mission starts being more risky is good for the officers' morale. *meaning-heavy sideglance at Joe*
Naara: *Nods, quietly* * I know Sir. But I can't help feeling uneasy after every mission we've had in these caverns has been set upon by everything that lives down here, and that one security officer, no matter how competent, is expected to protect 4 other people.
T'Pah: *nods, and adds after a pause* I can reassure you insofar as that most of us are at least rundamentary capable of protecting ourselves, and do not entirely need to be your responsibility alone. Lieutenant Loreno has approximately four years of war experience. The command department is, although by far not as advanced as yours, educated in and prepared for combat situations, and I trust that Ensign Boudet does in fact know how to wield a phaser as well. It seems that the doctor should be your first priroity.
Naara: *Sighs, quietly* I know. He has a habit of not exactly handling this well.. You should probably get back to your work, Sir. *Scanning for the inevitable monsters of doom*
T'Pah: *lifts an eyebrow, nodding* You have a point. *gets back to her work*
Kelsey: *stops with her rock-lifting to come over to Rorin and crouch over the backpack, picking up the small forcefield generators and inspecting them* We know how to set these up, yes? Flip an on switch?
Joe: *grunts softly as he moves one of the heavier ones* *IT WAS ONCE *
Rorin: Or we try a random setting. *brief grin, coughs, back to serious* No. We do know how to set them up. I got a lesson in mining technology. *explains briefly what he's been told*
Kelsey: Oh, yes. Good. *nods and follows his instructions to get them set up so they form a rough arch, protecting those below from potential falling rocks*
[After getting the forcefield support set up, the rock-removal goes smoothly until the job is about two-thirds of the way done. The job is clearly getting easier and it seems that the packed debris is less dense, when a low hissing can be heard, coming closer and getting louder as it approaches.]
T'Pah: *her tricorder starts vibrating* *lifts an eyebrow* Fascinating. *puts the mining device away and draws her phaser*
Naara: *Tenses, hearing it too, and aims her phaser at the source of the noise* Get ready everyone.
Rorin: *after setting up the stabilizers continued helping to remove the rocks* *stops and listens when he believes to hear a hissing sound, whispers* Should it attack us, fire on stun. *takes out his phaser*
Joe: *hears the hissing* *drops the rock he was moving and backs away slooowly* *hopefully it's friendly, please let it not want to eat the nice Starfleet people...*
Kelsey: *fantastic* *pulls out her phaser, holding it down with two hands, already tensed*
[Over and through the rocks comes a horde of small white serpentine forms, each no more than 30 centimeters in length, about fifty in number, all advancing at a fairly rapid speed.]
T'Pah: Retreat behind the forcefields. *while watching the serpentines*
Joe: *yipe* *ohhhh crap* *picks up the pace in backing up* No arguments here!
Rorin: Agreed. *puts his mining device away and backs off from the debris, watching the snakes*
Naara: *Ensures she's between the team and the snakes, backing up* *Levels phaser at them*
Kelsey: Yes, sir. *backs away, keeping wide eyes on the snakes*
T'Pah: *backs away, too, keeping an eye on the snakes and entrance, moving backwards aiming at them*
[The advancing swarm overtakes them, and mostly they pass by unfazed, except for those who encounter the team as obstacles. These unfortunate people are met with the wrath of blocked snakes, which begin to climb their legs, some slithering up the leg, looking for higher ground, while others burrow down into the boot, looking for exposed flesh to bite.]
Naara: *Continues to retreat and follow orders, having to bat away some of the snakes as they try to squirm past*
Joe: *continues retreating, and trying to dodge the snakes as they try slithering up his legs* *has seen what happens to the guy who gets covered in snakes (or whatever swarm is after them) in horror movies and is /not/ about to be That Guy* *swats at the snakes trying to get up his legs with the medkit* YIIII! *yipes and dances about as one starts getting into his boot*
T'Pah: *is only attacked by two snakes and fights them off, still retreating*
Rorin: *is a snake block* *shoves a few snakes away before they can find higher ground, but can't get the one who burrows into his boot before it is eventually successful, stops to kick it away (sorry ._.) with his other boot, but for the second he glances down and needs to realize the boot intruder, doesn't block all the upwards slithering snakes although he keeps trying*
Kelsey: *makes little horrified screeching noises when she realizes that they're coming /after her/ and makes quick dancing steps away, shaking off two snakes that climb her leg, and firing at them once they're off, but doesn't notice the one that enters her boot until it's too late and it bites through her sock*
Joe's boot snake: *is shaken off and goes flying, but is replaced by two more that try to go up his pants leg*
[The onslaught of snakes continues, most ignoring T'Pah because she's a twig and doesn't take up too much space, but not so for Rorin. While Rorin is distracted by the snake in his boot, another two go up his leg and torso, speeding for his neck.]
Joe: *snake is out of his boot and HOLY CRAP THEY'RE GOING UP MY PANTS* *keeps trying to back up, while at the same time trying to dance the snakes out of his pants, there's imporatant stuff in there!* *like /him/*
T'Pah: *somehow assumes the snake not going for her could have to do with missing sweat glands, doesn't aim her phaser at the snakes put uses it as a rod to help her crewmembers getting rid of them while still retreating* *not bothering too much if she hurts someone (lightly) by hitting a snake away*
Rorin: ..!! *quickly tries to get the snakes away from his neck*
Kelsey: *yelps with the bite and kicks her foot around, trying to dislodge the snake, while still moving backwards, and hoping sincerely that these aren't venomous, just annoying* *of course, she is wrong, and she can feel her foot slowly going numb* Do not let them bite you!
[While Joe is moderately successful at keeping the snakes at bay, Rorin is only able to get rid of one while the other comes around behind and bites him on the exposed skin of his neck repeatedly.]
T'Pah: *lifts an eyebrow, witnessing Rorin getting bitten, attempting to move to his aid* Too late.
Joe: *Oh great, they're /venomous/. This day just gets better and better.* Noted! *and shit, Rorin's bit* *crapcrapcrapcrapCRAP*
Rorin: *wouldn't mind if T'Pah hit him with her phaser instead of the snakes, he'd appreciate the help* *stops withdrawing but staggers backwards, holding his neck, probably feeling anything but well now that a venom that makes a foot go numb maybe got into his common artery*
T'Pah: *indeed hits him with the phaser to remove the snake*
[Rorin will experience a spreading feeling of numbness radiate from the site of the bite; the venom is a neurotoxin that shuts down sensory neurons first, then delves deeper into the nervous system, taking out everything in its path, including all autonomic processes.]
[The herd of snakes, being swatted away, speed by them, disappearing further into the tunnel, taking their hissing sound with them and fading into the distance. The distance that the team has yet to retreat to.]
Kelsey: Oh no. Rorin! *fires at any snake in her path, at this point she doesn't give a shit, Bitten Friend is more important and needs her attention.*
T'Pah: *to Rorin* Can you climb up the ladder? *while still retreating, stunning snakes in her path to not get bitten herself*
[Right as he tries to answer T'Pah's question, Rorin drops like a stone, the venom from the bites rushing through his bloodstream and shutting down all his automatic processes. The team drags his limp, unresponsive body with nonexistent vital signs back to the elevator shaft and past the forcefield, the snakes having all dissipated into crevices in the tunnel walls and nowhere to be seen by the time they get there. The laborious process of dragging Rorin up the ladder is begun, along with Kelsey's progressively numb leg, and somehow they make it back to the top over an hour later, comming ahead for medical assistance, and are beamed into Sickbay as soon as they're in range for examination and emergency aid.]
