I. Joseph and Rorin are kept in the dark...

I.
[Towards the edge of the base, in a rarely frequented area near the tunnels, the lights flicker for a while and then extinguish, leaving the fates of the few base personnel inside unknown.]
Joseph: *when the lights go out, that's just great* *grumbles* Grand....
Rorin: *since yesterday helped securing the base* *that he passes by the area near the tunnels is more a coincidence, though; is actually headed elsewhere, work-wise-- but slows down as the lights flicker and stops when they go out, reaches for his phaser*
[The base sounds eerily silent, with just darkness in the powerless halls.]
Joseph: *thought he glanced someone as he came around the corner right before the lights went out, keeps a hand on the wall as he calls out* Anyone there? *not too loud, but loud enough for his voice to carry*
Rorin: Yes, me. Rorin Loreno. *is probably still near the spot where Joe has seen him, a bit too far away from the wall to touch it*
Joseph: *lets out a relieved breath, it's someone he knows* *phew* Oh thank goodness. *starts forward, very carefully, not letting his hand away from the wall so he knows where it is*
Rorin: *doesn't move, talking quietly* Ahh, and you are? Dover, hm? Joseph? *via voice and feels* Is that you moving?
Joseph: *nods, but it's dark so he replies verbally* Yes, to both. I'm next to the left wall. *from his point of view*
[Right in front of Joseph is a case on the floor, containing emergency beacons (flashlights?)]
Rorin: Are you facing me? Moving towards me? *is facing Joe, probably, can't see him* *knows that he wasn't too far away from a wall, slowly reaches out for it without taking his other hand away from his phaser*
Joseph: Moving towards, I hope. *he was facing Rorin when the lights went out so that's what he's assuming* *also because it's pitch black and he doesn't see the emergency kit, faceplanting hard and loudly on the floor* GAAAH OUCH! *crash-bang-boom-ouch*
Rorin: *of course this doesn't startle him at all* *tenses up alarmed, draws his phaser set to stun (aiming will be funny in the dark, so he wouldn't just shoot without a very good reason)* Joseph!? What's happening? *not loud* *we're possibly under attack; considering to inform base security*
Joseph: *grumbles, rubbing his face, which is sore* No, I'm fine. Someone left something lying in the middle of the hall *or at least where he was walking* and I tripped over it. *so glad it's dark, that faceplant was no doubt very undignified* *feels for the offending case to try and ascertain what made him kiss the floor*
Rorin: *... relieved, no attack (yet?)* I'm coming towards you. Any idea why the lights went out? *hm, if it was that giant from the underground we'd probably be in much more trouble by now, but could it cause anything like it from down there?*
Joseph: *oh, it's a case! fiddles with it blindly try and open it* Not a clue.
Rorin: Hm, I've seen nothing that could have caused it. *narrows eyes thoughtfully, starts walking along the wall towards Joe* I hope it isn't related to yesterday's incident.
Joseph: *finds a flashlight in the case and flips it on so he can see* Same here.... *but he's not holding out hope*
Rorin: *blinks at the sudden light* Ah, nice. Hello. *now he can see Joe, glances around quickly now that there's light*
[The hallway around them is bare, although the flashlight is dimmer than it should be. The hall is still silent, and if there is something there then it hasn't revealed itself.]
Joseph: *pans the flashlight around, though it seems the flashlight may need new batteries* I don't see anything..... *this quiet is starting to creep him out just a teensy bit*
Rorin: Me neither. Could you amplify the light?
Joseph: *headshake* No, I don't think so, but there's more than one in here....
Rorin: All right. Let's take a quick look around before we call anyone to have look at the light. *not fond of this situation* *picks up a flashlight for himself and activates it*
[The halls remain mostly silent, until a scream from one of the base personnel rings out from deeper in the darkened section, before it is extinguished in a strangling sound.]
Joseph: *nod* *starts, that scream* I think we're not alone.... *voice just a bit strangled* *oh shiiiit we're screwded*
Rorin: *shines his flashlight to the direction from where he assumes the scream came* I agree. Do you have a phaser?
Joseph: *headshake* No...I'd be pretty useless with one anyway.
Rorin: It's all right. I'll go first. But would you light the way and call Security as soon as we can see a little more of what's happening? *doesn't want to call a team and let them run blindly into a mess of unknown extent, if he can help it*
Joseph: *nods* Right. *._. useless*
Rorin: *glances at him; was replying to the 'no phaser' part and is unfortunately oblivious of the second one (also „light plus Security“ doesn't count as useless in Rorin's head), but something just went wrong, hm? :/* Thank you. *starts moving, phaser ready*
Joseph: *follows, lighting the way and tense* *and trying not to jump at every little shadow* *does /not/ want to be the one to call security over being scared by a rat* *or a spider*
Rorin: *moves towards from where the scream came, carefully not not too slow*
Joseph: *keeps pace with Rorin, glancing behind them from time to time, who knows what's lurking in the shadows* *why does the power going out make everything that much creepier?* *likes watching horror movies, doesn't like being /in/ one.*
[The halls are creepily empty until they come across the source of the scream. Across from an open wall panel is a trail of blood leading off into the darkness and abandoned tools strewn about.]
Joseph: *goes pale* *not grossed out, but uh-oh....* *voice is soft yet a bit higher-pitched than normal* Well that's not good....
Rorin: *stops when he sees the blood and abandoned tools, makes a small face and shines his light at the open wall panel, then quickly across the area* It isn't, no. *not at all* We should follow the blood trail, but see if Security can be here first. *if they can site-to-site transport, they'll be here in a second*
Joseph: *nods* Right. *taps commbadge* Dover to Security, I'm with Lieutenant Loreno and we think there might be something down here.
Jannike: *picks up comm* Jannike here, on my way.
Joseph: Right, thanks. *has heard about transport to and from the ship are down due to the storm, and figures that the same is probably true for site-to-site transport within the base as well.*
Rorin: *aims with his phaser to where his light shines, panning the light around slowly, searching for any movement* Let's hope they're fast... *no reproach, just honest hope*
[A moment later a security team – led by a Commander from the base and including Jannike - arrives. The Commander hears what Joseph and Rorin have to say before takes over the situation to locate the intruder and find the wounded person. Rorin, being no part of the security team, is dismissed. Joseph is told to stand by for immediate treatment on the way to sickbay, once the injured officer is found.]
Rorin: *a little miffed but if the team wants to handle things themselves, fine, "never change a winning team"* *thanks Joe for working with him and then goes where he was originally headed, alert*
